Casa Cis­terna

Casa da Cisterna is located right in the centre of the medieval village of Castelo Rodrigo. The name comes from the nearby water tank that was used to supply the village with water centuries ago and also for Jewish baptisms. Casa da Cisterna is a cluster of small stone cottages, recently rebuilt and renewed offering a cozy environment. Ana, your host, will warmly welcome you and tell you all about the history of these houses and the village. The old stone walls keep the secrets of an era when Castelo Rodrigo was the stage of many battles and long sieges. Around the house and from what remains of the old fortress wall, you can feel the history and traces of mysterious and fascinating times. From this place, more than 800 meters high, you will see many soaring birds, like eagles or griffins, taking advantage of thermals to travel distances out of sight.

Casa da Cisterna is the perfect place to read a book, listen to music or just to take a nap in the garden swing chair. In your cozy room, you can connect to the world via Internet and share these precious moments.

Quinta Nova de Nossa Sen­hora do Carmo

Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo is one of the most beautiful Quintas (estates) in the Douro region and an example of the true nature of this valley. In this place the history lies in the terrain, in the aromas and in the knowledge of the men who have kept it alive generation upon generation. Over time the historical value of the Quinta has been carefully preserved – the 18th Century manor house, a Wine Hotel since 2005, the baroque style chapel dating back to 1795, the 17th Century chapel by the river, the orchards, the olive press and the 1764 winery. Hotel guests can feel the true spirit of the Douro Valley by accompanying the Quinta's farming activities, trying out the walking routes and discovering the Quinta's historical spots.

The Design Hotel Casa das Penhas Douradas is a venture in 'Nature Tourism'. It is a boutique hotel located in the heart of the Serra da Estrela Natural Park. Pou­sada de Faro, Palá­cio de Estoi

The Pousada de Estoi is set in the old 19th Century Estoi Palace, which used to belong to the Viscount of Estoi, José Francisco da Silva. The palace took 20 years to build and in May 1909 a huge party was thrown in the gardens to celebrate the inauguration. After the Viscount's death, the palace remained in the family until 1987, when it was acquired by Faro's Municipal Council. Besides the main building, the tea pavilions and Versailles-style gardens are still being renovated. The Palácio de Estoi is a "Pousada de Portugal" since May 2009, a project signed by Gonçalo Byrne, a famous Portuguese architect.

Set on the slopes of the Esperança Mountain, at just over 1 km from the town of Belmonte, the birthplace of Pedro Álvares Cabral, the Pousada Convento de Belmonte results from the renovation of the former Nossa Senhora da Esperança Convent.

Villa Pedra Nature Houses

On a slope of Serra do Sicó, right in the centre of Portugal, old Aldeia de Cima had been abandoned for over seventy years or so, before it was discovered by the owners who fell in love with its unique beauty and decided to bring it back to life.

Carefully respecting the spirit of the region, old construction techniques were used to recover the limestone block walls covered with ocher lime to preserve the ecological, aesthetic basis, ensuring absolute comfort throughout the year.

The abandoned part of the village was reborn and renamed, VILLA PEDRA. Its basic concept lies in well being, peacefulness, quality and authenticity.

Here, one will find time and serenity for reflection and the supreme privilege of doing nothing.
